Probably because I kept running into places that are nearby. (I found out after reading it that the author lives in my area). There were several problems with this, it was waaaay too long. Every person in the story kept whining and second guessing themselves throughout the story. Not one of the main characters was likeable. Facts kept changing. Then there was the timeline for Molly's birth. Let me get this straight-Mom and Dad have sex at a graduation party (assumption-it is May or June). Child is born the next June-how is this possible? There is a celebrity who finds out after the fact that he has a "love child" and this is no big deal to anyone? The paparazzi swarm when they go grocery shopping and on a lake, but no other time? Oh yeah, and the one little detail that raised my eyebrows when I read it...how many women include a push-up bra in their running attire? Silly me, I thought that was what sports bras were made for. All in all, it was an "eh" read, when there is nothing else, read this, otherwise, I would advise passing on it.

I ran across Taming Mad Max while trolling . I've found a lot of great, inexpensive reads lately and by authors I`ve never read or heard of before. I guess it's a little easier to shell out .99 or $2.99 for a book and if it bombs well then no great loss or expense. But when I keep finding books that are excellent - then it's a win win for me. I love it.

Sports dudes and romance are one of my favorite combo's in a book. Taming Mad Max delivers on both counts and for anyone who enjoys the sports/romance combo then you're going to love Taming Mad Max.

The story actually features very little actual "sport" but NFL football players are involved and in addition to Max and Kari's story we get a healthy does of Max's team-mate Cole and Kari's BFF Lindsay - which is quite a substantial arc in the book.

Max and Kari have a past - even if Max can't really remember it and 13 years later they run into one another again when Kari's is hired as Max's nutritionist. I loved Kari's profession. I was hoping for a little education myself as Max learned about fat grams and protein and saturated and unsaturated fats.

There is nothing not to like about Taming Mad Max. The story was entertaining, it featured a great cast of secondary characters including a large contingent of Max's siblings, his mom and characters I came to care about and root for.

Even if the sports thing isn't "your thing" you should read Taming Mad Max. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Kari Murphy and Max Dutton met while they were in high school. Fourteen years later, Kari literally walked in to Max's life. But though, Kari has not forgotten her, Max has no recollection of her.

A romantic comedy sprinkled with a few serious issues that is discussed in the main plot and two subplots, "Taming Mad Max" is good read and would have gotten a higher rating from me if not for the very derogatory portrayal of the female characters including the protagonists and the supporting characters. The only female character that actually made sense is 13-year old Molly.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
The heroine started strong became wimpy and pigheaded as the story went on. Then two characters became nothing but groupies for NFL players. And then another female who declares she is independent but still gladly accept support from her family. I could go on, but the women in this book turned out to be pathetic.

Though the book tried to show that the men are the stupid ones, but as it turned out, the men who might be neanderthal at times are actually the ones who are levelheaded.
I really liked this story overall. There were just a couple things that bothered me enough to take me out of my fictional world and make reality come slamming back.

Max is a NFL player who is convinced that he is going to die at a young age. Both his father and grandfather died young and Max just believes it is in his genes.

Kari had a crush on Max back in high school. She even had one unforgetable night with him. Now she is back in his life with a secret. Any guess.....They have a daughter together. No big surprise there.

I loved the characters. Max cracked me up.

My issues 1. His mom and her dislike of any women in Max's life. The fact that she would hide that he was a father when she was so kind and loving to her other children.

2. The fact that Max does not remember Kari but he remember that "magical night and the dream girl that got away."
Maybe for a little while but this drags on and on and on. How does he not see all the clues.

3. And the pointe that I could not get past...His father and grandfather each died for no apparent reason. He is convinced he is going to die because he keeps having these episodes....the mysterious illness is....wait for it...a peanut allergy. WHAT THE HECK. His daughter is the one who diagnoses his allergy. This grown man has lived all his life, been in the hospital over this illness but his 12 year old immediately knows it is peanuts. Sorry at that point I thought how is that even logical. That is where the author lost me.

So it is a cute story. 4 only got the 4 stars from me because this plot line just did not seem logical.

I've got to admit I was pretty surprised with this one. Probably carry over from the last book I read, but I didn't have high hopes for Taming Mad Max. I quickly and easily fell into Kari and Maxs' story and found it to be quite an enjoyable read. I liked all the characters, and even the secondary romance what pretty good.

I'm normally not a fan of secret baby tropes or having kids in books at all for that matter, but I thought the author did a good job with it. It helps that the kid is 13 and not a baby. Anyway, I'd recommend this for a light vacation read. The pace is great, the story doesn't require much thought, the authors voice is really good. I'm glad I read the book. It's been on my TBR the longest at 4 years. Happy reading!
