Excellent book. I originally purchased this book to understand plotting or outlining a novel. Hah! Ms. Walker doesn’t discuss plotting until Chapter 10. She focuses on Emotion (Chapter 2) so by the time you get to chapter 10, you’ve already figured out the plotting for your novel including highly detailed scene and character descriptions.I’ll admit, I didn’t bother with most of the writing assignments after each chapter. The exercises I did complete generated 40+ pages (single space) of notes and ideas to use in my manuscript.

This concise guide really takes you through the points that are essential to the genre. The book is something to refer to repeatedly.
This is a wonderfully written book. I've been writing for some time but it wasn't until I read this book that I realized why my writing wasn't working. This is a MUST read for anyone who wants to write fiction. Easy to read, to understand, and right to the point.
Read it...you won't be disappointed...in fact you'll wish you'd read it sooner.
I was told she's coming out with an updated edition, so watch for that.
This is the most concise, informative guide to writing romance I've come across to date. I wish I'd had this book year ago! Kate does an excellent job of explaining exactly what readers look for in a romance novel, approaching the subject in the opposite direction from most writing guides. With this insight, not only will my writing experience be easier and more pleasurable, but I will be producing a product KNOWING what my audience wants. My new desktop writer's bible.

Kate Walker's 12 Point Guide to Writing Romance is excellent!!! She is a pure veteran with romance writing, she knows her stuff and tells it like it is. It's a very fun book to read. I couldn't put it down and used highlighters and underlining through a very large portion of it. Very crucial information!! Thank you Kate for this incredible book!! This guide is so detailed you may not need any other. Oh and it helps (tremendously) that Kate Walker is a professional writer. This is perfect for a newbie with plenty of info for the seasoned pro. A romance writer's must have.
If you want to write for Harlequin, this book is for YOU. It's a detailed guide to what works and what doesn't for the largest publisher of romance. If you don't want to write for Harlequin, there are still enough golden nuggets in this book to well justify the price and time.
